Cognitive Dissonance

As a nation, The United States of America, has adopted a sort of cognitive dissonance regarding our own moral standpoint. On one hand, we view ourselves as having overstepped our bounds, entering into a sort of Roman conquest which slowly burns down the third world, fueling the ideologies of our enemies. On the other hand, when we, as the American people, see or hear about the atrocities that we have committed we (Myself included) have a tendency to demonize the victims. It is for this reason that we can, at once, both question our moral right-hood and still cling to our American exceptionalism that has so far wrought more harm than good upon the causes of the USA.
